The Brits are Coming

Love it or hate it the Brit Awards are back again. This year the awards take place on 16th February at London’s Earls Court hosted by Peter Kay and will be shown live on ITV1.
Not as highbrow as The Mercury Music Awards and to be honest, the poor relation to the MTV Awards.
Over the years the Brits has given us some memorable moments. Who can forget the shambolic Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood hosting; Jarvis Cocker jumping on stage to protest at Michael Jackson’s performance of “Earth Song” and John Prescott getting a bucket of water thrown over him by a member of Chumbawamba?
This year’s awards are going to be dominated by the ladies with the likes of Lily Allen, La Roux, Pixy Lott, Lady Gaga and Ladyhawk all hugely successful last year. It’s also good to see Delphic getting a Critics Choice nominee and Empire of the Sun for the “International Breakthrough Act”.
We also have the frankly laughable “Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award” going to Robbie Williams!! I´m sure there are many more artists out there who actually deserve this award but hey this is the Brits. He is also up for “British Male Solo Artist”.
It also looks like X Factor’s Simon Cowell has a major influence on the artists nominated for best single with Alexandra Burke, JLS and this year’s winner Joe McElderry which I feel is a shame as there was so much great music released last year that didn’t get the same kind of exposure the X Factor attracts.
No info on who is appearing this year but let’s hope we get to see Lily Allen doing a duet with Susan Boyle (who is strangely missing from the list of Nominees!!) and I´m sure if Lady Gaga performs she will steal the show.
