Review: CALL OF DUTY Modern Warfare 2

2 DAYS 10 HOURS 21 MINUTES AND

23 SECONDS….Before War Starts !!

Modern Warfare 2 - Call of Duty

Modern Warfare 2 - Call of Duty

Staring at this tiny little clock on the screen wondering when you can download the biggest game release this year early is driving most of the western world insane…

Of course I’m talking about CALL OF DUTY Modern Warfare 2 which is in fact the sixth incarnation of the brand and fast becoming the benchmark console game.

Yes these games have been coming out every year but this one has once again returned to Infinity Wards vision of war – and I would have to say the best developer Activision has enlisted.

Here at Sparkle we have our pre-release copy and of course been meticulous about looking at what the big fuss is all about…

This first person shooter consists of three powerful gaming modes- a spiralling Campaign mode, a Special Ops mode which is a cooperative mission section and the fantastic Online Multiplayer where you discover how good you really are.

The first thing you notice is the 18 certificate this game now carries and the barrage of warnings as you navigate the sleek menu system for the first time, this game means business!

Yes it’s going to be controversial, yes you are going to be tearing up the Middle East and yes you can play the role of a terrorist. Do your best to destroy an airport, drive toboggans and use cool new gadgets like a heart beat sensor.

After the short introduction to the control system we are thrust into our first fire fight in Afghanistan.

From the start it is relentless and unforgiving with no time for easing yourself into war. You’re there in immediate danger and die quite a lot before getting the chance to dish out some pain.

The images you see are crisp and polished with photo realistic backdrops and an outstanding attention to detail.

The game utilizes Infinity Wards in house game engine IW4.0 which is claimed to be a generation ahead of it predecessors accommodating larger worlds and more efficient game rendering.

The use of blood effects is very prominent in the game making it seem all too real, and on most of the levels there are civilians ducking and running for cover who must not be killed in order for you to advance in the adventure.

Modern warfare 2 is set directly after the events of call of duty 4 and follows the struggle of a crack commando unit known as Task Force 141 comprised of a multi-national team devoted to keeping the world security intact.

It packs loads of original features including new weapons, riot shields, and dual welding guns borrowed from the Halo series. It delivers an intense, captivating & original storyline set to a outstanding dramatic music score from the world renowned film composer Hans Zimmer (even 50 Cent provides his voice to the game).

Ok yes I admit it – as I’m writing this I just keep thinking – I wanna go back to it and hurry up and finish this review already… but also feel the need to shout out and let the world know how amazing this game truly is!

This game will sell out and don’t be surprised if the price doesn’t get any cheaper anytime soon along with the chances of finding a pre-owned copy (which will be non existent).

This game with grab you, chew you up a bit, spit you out, grab you again then devour you. This has to be part of any true gamer’s collection.

But for the moment all you can do is stare at that tiny little clock on the call of duty website.

We tested the Xbox 360 version and it uses the full power of the machine to promise you countless hours of intense game time over the next year or so.

This game will defiantly last with new downloadable maps and content already promised for 2010.

We give this game a Sparkle rating of 97.5%

I am a big fan of PC Games, but Sparkle is taking all my time at the moment.

I might have to take a break from “Sparkling” and GO TO WAR :)

Thanks for this review, I love Modern warfare and can’t wait to sink another two years into this one. And it will piss off lots of PC owners that this is good.

    So that’s a bonus.
